One of the spring's revelations Kévin Vauquelin was one of the shadow favorites on the startlist of Tour de Romandie, but not much has come of it. The 22-year-old Frenchman had to give up in the second stage. His team Arkéa-Samsic now gives a medical update.
“Since the prologue, Vauquelin has been suffering from pain in his left hip. The pain requires several days of rest and physical therapy, we think. The medical staff will re-evaluate the situation in a week, depending on the pain," the team confirmed in a press release.
Vauquelin has already won the Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var and the Tour du Jura this year and a few days ago his team announced that Vauquelin will make his debut at La Vuelta as leader. He will miss out on the Tour de France as the French team look to slowly provide him with more experience at the highest level.
“We consider Kévin to be able to immediately made an impact on La Vuelta, that he can adapt to this kind of racing and measure up to the best. The goal is to give him the chance to develop as a leader during this Vuelta," said the team management earlier this week. It is unknown when the 22-year old will be back to competition, but it is expected that he takes several weeks off following a successful spring.
