One month before the penultimate stage of the Giro d'Italia takes place, Monte Lussari and Tarvisio are preparing to welcome the Corsa Rosa on what could be a decisive day for the final GC. Today the Organizing Committee, together with the Giro d'Italia staff, the Regional Civil Protection and the Traffic Police, carried out an inspection on the concrete road that leads from Val Saisera to the top, finally cleared of snow.
"In some sections the route is too narrow to allow the passage and parking of the public, who therefore can only access from above, with the cable car and for a maximum number of seats, or from valley floor, for a couple of kilometers down the road," explained Paolo Urbani of the organizing committee. "The rest of the route, for safety reasons, will be reserved for riders and support teams."
The 18,6 km individual time trial from Tarvisio that finishes on Monte Lussari will be on the menu May 27th which should be a decisive day in the Corsa Rosa. Before the final day in Rome, the riders will take on a brutal final challenge in the mountains, as the day features an ascent which at it's hardest phase averages 4.7 kilometers at 15%.
