The 12th stage of the Vuelta a Espana was a rather calm day for most, along the Mediterranean coast. The climbers however had a hard day of work towards the end, as the summit finish at Peñas Blancas saw them put on a long performance that saw Richard Carapaz return to his winning ways.
No riders were featured in the day's medical report.
As for the fines, they were attributed to the following:
61 - Rigoberto Uran: Pushing between riders. 200CHF fine, 4 points in points classification, 2 points in KOM classification and 10 seconds in general classification.
66 - Mark Padun: Pushing between riders. 200CHF fine, 4 points in points classification, 2 points in KOM classification and 10 seconds in general classification.
