It was a bittersweet day for Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl in the
Tour of Slovakia, as
Mauri Vansevenant narrowly missed the stage win. Mauri finished second, behind stage winner
Archie Ryan.
“I’m disappointed because the win was possible today,” said Vansevenant. He remained at the front for the most part of the race but slightly fell behind where it mattered the most. “I felt good and was there when the attacks came, thinning out the group.”
Though disheartened, he is still motivated to complete the tour with at least one victory. “At the start of the last hill, I was lucky that Josef came back, as he worked hard for me, which I am grateful for. At the same time, I am satisfied with my form because I just returned from Canada, and this motivates me to try again”, concluded Mauri. He holds 4th position in GC, 6 seconds behind his teammate and overall leader Josef Cerný.
