The
Tour of Slovakia's third stage was won by
Archie Ryan on Thursday, his first professional victory. The Jumbo Visma rider defeated Mauri Vansevenant of the Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl in the final sprint, in order to book his victory.
"It was very tough, and that suits me," Ryan said. The rider continues, "It was a very difficult stage, it was a really hard day. The team rode really well, so I had it a bit easier because of that. The climbs were really tough, a lot of teams were trying hard to get rid of the yellow jersey."
Ryan used the final climb before the finish line to his advantage and maintained the lead along with other riders. "Actually, I don't really like cobblestones, but it was very tough and that suits me. It was quite steep, which suits me too. The guys did a great job, how they dropped me off at the foot of the climb. It's thanks to them that I'm winning here,” Ryan concluded.
His victory has helped him climb to the 5th position in GC, just 10 seconds behind overall leader Josef Cerný.
