The Maryland Cycling Classic opens up the tabs on the major racing in North America, and Lidl - Trek have taken a comfortable win as they used their depth to put the competition into difficulty. Mattias Skjelmose was the race winner.
The American team has the focus to succeed on home territory and they did not disappoint. The hilly classic saw plenty attacks from early on, Lidl - Trek were among the heaviest represented teams but they then made the difference towards the end, with Toms Skujins putting in an attack that burned the four-rider chasing group.
After the Latvian was caught Skjelmose attacked and there was no response. A comfortable win for the Danish champion. Neilson Powless finished second whilst Hugo Houle completed the podium.
