Man arrested for trying "to cause an accident in the final stretch of stage 7" at the Vuelta a Espana

Yet more drama at a chaotic edition of the Vuelta a Espana as Spanish Police have revealed they have arrested a man, accused of attempting to cause a crash in the finale of stage 7.

"The Guardia Civil has arrested a 28-year-old man of Spanish nationality for the crime of disobedience when he tried to cause an accident in the final stretch of stage 7, at kilometre 216 of the N-332," reads an official statement. The incident in question is in regards to the sprint finish won by TotalEnergies' Geoffrey Soupe.

Although the sprint was chaotic, there was little hint of any criminality. However, according to the region’s Traffic Group, a 'fan' attempted to block the road the race was taking around 6pm local time, with the peloton coming in very quickly.

This is not the first arrest to come in regards to attempts at the Vuelta a Espana. Earlier in the race, four people were arrested for planning to drop 400 litres of oil on the riders.
