Martijn Tusveld is slowly recovering from his Giro d'Italia fall: "Hopefully the worst period is behind me and I can look forward again"

Martijn Tusveld has been out for a month already and his date of return is still unclear. The 29-year old Team DSM rider crashed on stage 2 of Giro d'Italia and retired from the race during first rest day. So far, he has still not fully recovered from his injuries as he informs WielerFlits.

The crash at Tusveld has had a significant impact, he says. "I still don't have much energy to really train. On Wednesday I did another two hours, which is really the max at the moment. From now on I'm going to try to build that up again. It took a long time for the abrasions from that fall to heal."

"Those wounds were very deep," the climber continues. "My skin was also very irritated, probably because a lot of dirt got into my body during that fall. I've been sliding on that tarmac a little too long. So it is still not going great, but hopefully the worst period is behind me and I can look forward again."

At the moment, it's unclear when will the Dutch rider make a come back to competition, but he'll definitely miss out on Dutch championships as well as Tour de France.
