Marta Cavalli will be back at the start of the Giro d'Italia Women next year, after a season hampered by ilness and injuries. Talking to SpazioCiclismo, she expresses her excitement to prepare in the best way possible for her home Grand Tour and attempt to top her second place overall from 2022.
"It's a Giro d'Italia that struck me at first glance because it's very varied," says the 25-year-old. "The first time trial will already be able to outline the general classification, putting pressure on the teams without specialists. We will already be able to see some interesting movements in the first few days. The key stages for me will be the last three. The penultimate stage up Blockhaus is the most difficult, but even the third-last and last stages could upset the ranking."
She therefore confirms that she will also be at the start of the next edition: "We can say yes, I really like racing in Italy. With the team we decided that it could be the objective of the second part of the season. I was anxiously awaiting the presentation of the route because I want to go as soon as possible to do some recon and then better define the preparation," she adds.
In 2024 she also hopes to have archived the problems that tormented her in the last year: "2023 was not an easy, dull season for me. I never managed to reach my level but with the winter break I put many things behind me and the desire to have a noteworthy 2024 is great. I'm already rolling up my sleeves and the goal is to give the spectators as much entertainment as possible."
