Mark Cavendish and
Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team's relations have had better days, but recent rumours suggest that the veteran's recent lack of racing could be because of a Covid-19 infection that wasn't revealed.
After missing out on the Tour de France, Cavendish and the Belgian team's contacts have been severly cut. The Manxman is guarranteed to leave the team at the end of the season, but was still scheduled to race in the closing months of the year. He was set to ride the Tour of Denmark last week but was a last-minute absence, and has no return to competition expected. At the beginning of August he raced the Tour de Pologne but was not capable of fighting for the many sprints, and abandoned the race early to feature in the Commonwealth Games which he also didn't conclude.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport's Ciro Scognamiglio has suggested that according to several sources Cavendish has recently tested positive for Covid-19. This would justify his absence from the scheduled calendar.
He also mentioned that the sprinter was back to training in the meantime, but does not yet have a race outlined to mark his return to the peloton.
