Fabio Jakobsen has been unable to compete (at his best) for a while. After a surgery for flow limitation in the iliac artery in both of his legs, the Dutchman made a steady return to competition. Racing at almost home roads of
Renewi Tour, the Picnic PostNL was however struck by bad luck once again. A crash early in the stage meant Jakobsen could no longer continue in the race. And won't be able to do so for a while again as he suffered a broken collarbone in the incident.
Team Picnic PostNL doctor Camiel Aldershof explained in a
team press release: "Fabio’s return to racing was going well and he was making the steps that we expected. However, he crashed pretty hard during yesterday’s Renewi Tour stage and unfortunately broke his collarbone. He underwent surgery last night, which went well, and will now focus on his recovery in the next few days, before we then look to a plan for him to get back to full training."
Jakobsen added: "I was really enjoying to be back with the team on the road and doing what I enjoy the most - racing my bike. This is of course a set-back, but hopefully I can be back training soon and from there we will make a plan for any upcoming races."
