Tom Pidcock is one of the most talented riders in the peloton, and one who is very open about his ambitions. Becoming a Grand Tour rider, and fighting for the Tour de France, is one of them.
“There’s a good chance I can win the Tour de France in my career,” Pidcock told BBC Radio. “I believe I can, and so far, everything I believed I can achieve, I have achieved.” Alongsider other top performances, Pidcock in 2020 won the under-23 Giro d'Italia with staggering dominance, which has propelled his skillset into the realm of possibility of seeing him become a quality stage-racer over his pro career.
The current Cyclocross champion, aswell as Olympic and European XCO champion - who will today in Les Gets be battling for the rainbow stripes on the MTB discipline aswell - Pidcock has consolidated himself as one of the most versatile and talented cyclists worldwide, at only the age of 23. On the road he's joined INEOS Grenadiers on a long-term contract until 2027, in which he will be developing his evolution as a rider. He's so far stood out as a world-class puncheur, but has also done very well in the cobbled classics, and recently took a breakaway win at Alpe d'Huez in the Tour de France.
“I’m ambitious, I’m here to learn, and I’ve learned a hell of a lot. I think I have bigger ambitions in this race in the future for sure after this experience," he said regarding the Tour de France. Although a change in training and focus would be necessary to target the Grand Boucle, over the course of the following years it's expected that the Briton will be testing himself in different terrains.
