With the leaders' advantage up over six minutes for much of the day, by the time the final, 4km climb up to the line began, only Uno-X Mobility's Adne Holter remained out front by just over a minute.
Although the peloton, led by
Groupama - FDJ working for Lenny Martinez weren't giving up, Holter, who attacked at kilometre zero wasn't showing any signs of weakness.
With 3.1km to go though, Martinez took matters into his own hands and launched a brutal attack from the peloton, with his teammate,
David Gaudu attempting to follow before realising he was helping the chase and sitting up.
With 2.2km to go, Martinez made contact with Holter at the front and a moment later kicked again to take the solo lead.
Victory looked certain for Martinez but an incredible move by
Victor Langellotti bridged the gap in the final kilometre. Despite having company, Martinez refocused to attack again and take the win.
