Laurens de Plus prepared for the Vuelta a Espana but his race ended almost at the same time it started. The team time-trial in Barcelona proved very complicated under rainy conditions and Laurens de Plus was one of the victims, taking a tumble, which ended up causing a hip fracture. The Belgian has now undergone surgery for it.
"Laurens de Plus has undergone successful surgical treatment in Belgium on the non-displaced fracture he sustained to his right hip, in a crash on the opening stage of La Vuelta," INEOS wrote on social media. "He has been discharged from hospital and will soon start the rehabilitation process under the care of our team’s medical staff.
We wish Laurens a speedy recovery and return to full fitness."
