Lance Armstrong is one more year commenting on the
Tour de France through his Youtube channel The Move and, how could it be otherwise, he has talked about the controversy of the second stage in which Victor Lafay took the win over
Jumbo-Visma and
Wout van Aert in the last kilometer.
"The truth is that I don't understand the reason why Vingegaard didn't take the lead in the last 300 to 400 meters. That would have given the win to Van Aert. Vingegaard could have done it, he has the legs for it. It was his and the team's mistake. It's in Vingegaard's interest for Van Aert to win a stage at the beginning of the Tour so he's satisfied. Then he can concentrate 100 percent on helping him win the Tour de France."
Johan Bruyneel, former sports director at US Postal Johan Bruyneel, who believes that Jumbo and Vingegaard could have benefited from van Aert's victory to calm their spirits and could focus more on helping the Dane try to win the Tour de France as he did in 2022 by being a key player, is of the same opinion:

And the sooner it happens, the better for Jumbo-Visma. I don't quite understand. Suppose Van Aert had won and it would have been thanks to Vingegaard, that would have given a very good feeling."
