Kasper Asgreen leaves Tour de Suisse after stage 3 crash

Kasper Asgreen's hopes of being at the Tour de France have taken a hit as the Dane crashed on the third stage of the Tour de Suisse and has as a result not taken to the start today in Grenchen.

The crash in which he was involved with four kilometers to go yesterday also saw his teammate Ilan van Wilder crash out of GC contention, with the likes of Max Schachmann and Domenico Pozzovivo also involved. The Dane however seems to be the most badly affected of these four riders, needing to take stitches in his left knee due to a deep wound.

“I am disappointed to say goodbye to the Tour de Suisse. The feeling in these first couple of days had been good and I was looking forward to the coming stages," Asgreen said in a press release this morning. "I want to thank the team’s medical staff for how they looked after me and at the same time express my hope that the recovery will be a fast one. Best of luck to my teammates for the next days”

Stage four will see the riders ride from Grenchen to Brunnen in a route that suits the puncheurs, and may see his teammate Remco Evenepoel once again on the attack.
