Alpecin-Deceuninck have been riding a wave of success recently, making history by becoming the first team ever to win the first three monuments of the season. Their hopes of taking victory at the upcoming
Brabantse Pijl however, have been dealt a blow.
"Update lineup at De Brabantse Pijl:
Kaden Groves will be replaced by
Jimmy Janssens," announces the official social media pages of the Alpecin-Deceuninck team. "As you know, Kaden has been experiencing some knee problems. These are under control, but our medical staff doesn't want to take any risks in regards to his participation at Giro d'Italia."
A sprinter with considerable Grand Tour pedigree, Groves has five Grand Tour stage wins under his belt and the Green Jersey from the 2023 Vuelta a Espana. At the upcoming Giro d'Italia, the 25-year-old Australian is expected to lead the Alpecin-Deceuninck team and to challenge for the Points Classification jersey yet again.
I have had four operations now on my knees due to pedal issues and the have never been right since. After years on fixed cleats I took on board "good advice" to use cleats that allow a bit of float. After only a few rides I felt that I might have made a mistake and should have stayed on fixed but kept with it thinking it would settle in. Too late the damage was done and the meniscus in both knees was shredded.
Depending on an atheletes' age, it could be as little as a few weeks, 3-4 months or as long as a full year. Pretty annoying injury
And knee issues are notoriously difficult to heal anyway
