Jonathan Milan to try Classics before Giro d'Italia and Olympic Games: "It’s going to be tough, but I’m excited"

Jonathan Milan’s move from Bahrain Victorious went under the radar when it was announced but the 23-year-old sprinter could be one of the most underrated transfers, with the Italian set to have his own dedicated leadout train in 2024 as he targets both the Giro d’Italia and the Spring Classics.

"We started talking at the beginning of the year and then slowly we came together in our talks. In the end, Lidl-Trek had ideas to let me grow as a rider, and now we’re here," Milan told GCN.

"It’s just been a couple of days but I’m excited and I’ve already worked on my bike position and next we’ll look at my time trial set-up. There are lots of meetings going on and lots to talk about and finalise but I’m pretty positive going into 2024," he doesn't hide his excitement during team's first altitude camp.

"We have Simone Consonni with me and Edward Theuns and they’ll be at almost every race with me. I’ll start in Valenciana as my first race and then my goal is to do a good part of the Classics and improve in that area. I’ve still got to learn a lot when it comes to the Classics and I don’t have a lot of experience there but before that, I’ll do Tirreno-Adriatico. The goal is to have an easy start to the year and to have good feelings for the Classics. After that I’ll focus on the Giro d’Italia and then the Olympics. It’s going to be tough, but I’m excited."
