A list has been made, speculating on the best-paid professional cyclists in the 2023 year. The list features Tadej Pogacar as, by far, the highest-paid rider in the peloton unsurprisingly, and also plenty INEOS Grenadiers riders on the top of the list.
This is according to a report from La Gazzetto dello Sport, TotalVelo and Het Laatste Nieuws. Notably, it misses figures such as Chris Froome and Peter Sagan who were said to be among the most payed riders in the peloton. These numbers are not made public by the teams and so they are not confirmed, but they are a good indicator of the numbers we've got currently in the peloton.
Top 10 best-paid riders in the peloton according to Gazzetta dello Sport and TotalVelo:
1: Tadej Pogacar - €6 million
2: Tom Pidcock - €4 million
3: Geraint Thomas - €3.5 million
4: Egan Bernal - €3 million
5: Primoz Roglic - €2.9 million
6: Jonas Vingegaard - €2.5 million
7: Julian Alaphilippe - €2.3 million
8: Wout van Aert - €2 million
9: Mathieu van der Poel - €2 million
10: Remco Evenepoel - €2 million
Notably, following Pogacar there is a trio of INEOS Grenadiers riders. Tom Pidcock, as a multi-disciplinary star and Olympic Champion follows in second place with €4 million, and his teammates Geraint Thomas and Egan Bernal follow suit. They are ahead of many of the peloton's best, and it gives an insight on how the budget within the British team - said to be the highest in the peloton - is spent, as UAE Team Emirates do not have another rider in the Top10, and all Jumbo-Visma leaders sit behind.

We've got the presence of Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard as 5th and 6th best payed riders, joined by Wout van Aert who is 8th; Mathieu van der Poel who has the same salary as Wout van Aert with €2 million, which is also the case with Remco Evenepoel. However, interestingly Julian Alaphilippe is the best payed Soudal - Quick-Step rider at €2.3 million.
