Jonas Vingegaard will once again prioritise the
Tour de France in his 2024 race calendar. Despite this though, the Danish superstar has refused to rule out sticking around in France for a little longer and competing at the Paris
Olympic Games.
“It would be super nice,” Vingegaard says of a potential Olympic appearance in conversation with La Gazzetta dello Sport. "But for now, I only have one goal: the hat-trick at the Tour. Then we will see," says the 27-year-old cryptically.
Of the Tour de France, Vingegaard believes his quest for victory has been made considerably harder by the absence of his loyal domestique
Wout van Aert. The Belgian has instead opted to debut at both the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a Espana instead during the 2024 season.
"Of the major stage races, I will only take part in the Tour de France. I will start in Spain with the O Gran Camiño, and instead of the Paris-Nice, I will participate in the Tirreno-Adriatico. Afterwards, Itzulia Basque Country. And the Tour, these are my four races on the program for the moment," Vingegaard says. "This year, on the Tour, we had less pressure than in 2022 because we had already won it. In 2024, it will be more difficult because Van Aert will not be there. But we will give the maximum."
"With me, there will be Kuss, Benoot, Laporte and Van Baarle... It will be difficult because opponents like Evenepoel and Pogacar will be there. And then Roglic. I will prepare as best as possible, especially on roads where I'm less comfortable. It'll be fun to see how I prepare for all that," concludes the reigning two-time back-to-back Maillot Jaune winner.
