Jasper Philipsen starts off 2022 on the right foot: "I'm super happy"

After an incredibly successful 2021 season, Jasper Philipsen has started his new year with the same winning feeling, by conquering his second stage at the UAE Tour.

"It was a really fast finish, we were lined up really well with the team, we had a good plan. Last kilometer my leadout man lost his chain, it was a bit chaotic to find a good wheel, to just surf towards the finish line in a good wheel. But in the end all came out well, so I'm super happy."

We saw an opportunity to try to split the bunch with some crosswinds," Philipsen said regarding a move the team has done with 40 kilometers to go, attempting to split the peloton. The peloton did suffer but it wasn't enough to make it stick. In the final sprinter the Belgian once again got perfect positioning and managed to overturn Sam Bennett to take his second stage win of the week.

"We go for it, our week has already been good so far, so everyone that comes tomorrow is an extra, will go motivated as always." Tomorrow Jasper Philipsen will have one more opportunity to get a stage win, his points classification is essentially assured but he will nevertheless go into it with ambition.
