Is there a faster sprinter in the peloton today than Jasper Philipsen? On the basis of the first two sprints at the 2023 Tour de France, the answer to that question would be no. As a reward for his brilliant form, it seems a new contract is in the offing.
According to a report by Het Laatste Nieuws, the reasons for celebration continue to come for the 25-year-old Belgian sprinter. Philipsen is set to extend his Alpecin-Deceuninck contract that had been set to expire at the end of 2024. Although the exact length isn't yet known, it is predicted to be a pretty lengthy deal, perhaps similar to the one signed by Puck Pieterse recently, extending her deal until 2027.
Philipsen has been the standout sprinter in the early portion of the 2023 Tour de France taking stage wins on both stage 3 and stage 4. Alongside his superstar lead out man, Mathieu van der Poel, the pair have been dominant in the bunch sprints.
The reward for Philipsen isn't just for his Tour de France form it must be said, the Belgian has added a total of eight wins to his already impressive palmares so far this year. Most notably winning two stages at Tirreno-Adriatico and overall victories at Classic Brugge-De Panne and Scheldeprijs.
