Jan Maas landed his sight on an opportunity to ride La Vuelta this August. The 27-year old rider is usually bound by team duties but has already built up enough respect within the team to ride some of the biggest races.
"There is a good chance that I will ride La Vuelta. That would be my first Grand Tour, so I would really like that. The plan is to go via altitude camp to a few Spanish races or Tour de Pologne, and then La Vuelta," Maas says in an interview for In de Leiderstrui.
Even though Jan Maas would have exclusively domestique duties, he's still eager to make the final selection. "I'm going to Spain for that, that's investing in yourself. Even though I am only a domestique, it is important that you give it your everything. That's how you continue to develop," he says.
"Jayco AlUla is just a very nice team to ride with, and I'm not saying that because I happen to race for them. It is very nice to ride for those guys, if the atmosphere is so good," Maas adds. "But if I can go for my own chance, then I will go for it."
