The next big hope of Spanish Grand Tour cycling, Juan Ayuso burst onto the scene at the 2022 Vuelta a Espana. Continuing to develop and progress, Ayuso is targeting a crack at the Tour de France in 2024.
"I think I should go to the Tour. I'd like to be there. But the most important thing is that I keep developing," he says of his 2024 plans in an interview with Marca. "Next year I want to make another jump and with that jump, I might have the level to win the Tour de France."
Speaking prior to the individual time-trial at the Spanish National Championships, in which Ayuso finished fourth, the 20-year-old understandably referenced his UAE Team Emirates teammate Tadej Pogacar as an example for him to try and emulate.
"It's just a motivation to be as good as Tadej. That's what I ultimately work for," he says. "I'm happy, but I know I still have a lot to improve on. My goal is not to be the best Spaniard, but to be the best in the world."
