A stage winner at the Tour de France, a monument winner at the Tour of Flanders,
Kasper Asgreen can now boast a
Giro d'Italia stage win on his palmares as well, following a heroic solo win by the Dane on stage 14 of the 2025 edition of the Italian Grand Tour.
Having been part of the breakaway for most of the day, Asgreen attacked his companions to go solo with just over 5km to go. Because of a mass crash in the peloton behind, the chase was far from coordinated too, something that ultimately played to Asgreen's benefit, although that still didn't make it easy for the
EF Education-EasyPost man.
"It’s annoying that you have to completely destroy yourself to win a bike race — but when it works, it’s all worth it," he laughed to begin his post-stage interview afterwards. " The team gave me the green light to go for it today, and I’m grateful for that."
"I’ve done this before. I know that in the second half of a Grand Tour, you can outsmart the sprinters on a flat stage with the right breakaway. Everyone’s legs are tired, and that makes the difference," continues the wily Dane. "It’s fantastic to win in both the Tour and the Giro. Now I’m one step closer to winning a stage in all three Grand Tours," Asgreen adds in conclusion.
