The
Groupama - FDJ rider had a strong neo-pro season last year and is one of the team's young talents that is being developed. High hopes were put on his shoulders for this year, however those will have to be delayed as
Jake Stewart is currently suffering from intestinal issues which do not allow him to resume competition.
"Since mid-January, I have been bothered by intestinal problems, which prevented me from competing. We are looking for the best solution to cure it. During this period of time, I will not be able to race at a high level, I can train but I will not compete," Steward said in a team announcement. The Briton has so far not start his season and questions were being raised as to why that was ongoing. Stewart has been suffering with intestinal problems which are for the time preventing him from competing, and he does not have a set recovery period.
Finally, I also want to thank the specialist who is following me, Jacky Maillot and the whole team Groupama-FDJ. They listened to me and gave me time to understand what was going on. Everything is in line for me to get better and to get back to my best level," he concluded.
Stewart turned pro in October 2020 after riding for the French team's development squad, and obtained his career highlight at the beginning of his first full season when he finished runner-up at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. The 22-year old has some freedom within the team, specializing in hilly and sprint stages where he is likely to shine later on this season.
