🇫🇷 #ParisNice @MaxSchachmann will not be at the start of todays stage @ParisNice Due to feeling unwell after the stage yesterday the rider and the medical team decided to abandon the race and focus on recovery and the next objectives. 💪🏼
After a rough beginning to the race, BORA - hansgrohe have stated this morning on social media that Max Schachmann, winner of the 2021 edition, has abandoned Paris-Nice as he was feeling unwell.
The German national champion skipped racing in February and kicked off his spring campaign here in France but he has not had an easy start, loosing some time on both stages one and two, evidently showing that he was nowhere near the form that saw him conquer the title last year. Yesterday Schachmann finished the third stage in 48th place in the middle of the peloton and little would indicate he would not be starting this morning.
BORA - hansgrohe have not been a part of any of the sprints so far in the race's three stages, missing out on an opportunity that could be seized by the likes of Sam Bennett and Danny van Poppel who will not have another sprint stage ahead. However, team leader Aleksandr Vlasov has managed to survive the crosswind action whilst still in the battle for the race victory. After loosing Felix Grossschartner on stage one, BORA is now finding themselves with no support for the Russia climber when the race hits the mountains.
