"It's not true" - Bahrain dismiss Nairo Quintana signing, mystery remains over Colombian's future

Nairo Quintana's future in pro cycling remains a relative mystery. Recently he has revealed that he has signed for a World Tour team, without revealing it's name. Many of the options suggested have refused, with Bahrain - Victorious another one to add.

In an interview with EFE agency, Quintana said that “I will be in the WorldTour, I will continue to pedal hard and look ahead. The idea is to keep the motivation to win races and represent my country… Next year I will be racing the big races.” Several teams have in the past months denied contacts with the Colombian.

Bahrain - Victorious was one of the possibilities, and Charles Marsault of Velo-Club.net has said yesterday that he was likely to have signed with the Bahraini team, currently home of compatriot Santiago Buitrago, former teammates Mikel Landa and many more talented climbers. However, as soon as the rumour emerged, a source within Bahrain told VeloNews that the information isn't true.

Hence, the mystery remains. Recently Jay Vine has signed with UAE Team Emirates and dismissed all rumours just days before his announcement, so there is no guarrantee the same wouldn't apply here. He's mentioned a return to Movistar was possible and could be a logical option seeing the depart of Alejandro Valverde, and EF Education-EasyPost is another good option taking into consideration their South American climbing block.
