At the end of the season it's time to re-evaluate what went well and what not. At the Italian Cycling Federation, the president Cordiano Dagnoni draws up a very positive conclusion, regarding what has been achieved by Italian athletes over the 2023, across all disciplines.
According to what the FCI reports, in fact, while waiting for the Elimination Mountain Bike World Championships to take place in Indonesia next weekend, 120 medals have been won by 98 different athletes during the season which is coming to an end (between World Championships and European Championships), of which 48 were gold.
"It is the second best result ever," according to Dagnoni's words. "In the three years of the current Federal Council's mandate, Italian cycling has gone from an average of 71 medals per season in the previous four-year period to 115. It is confirmation of the excellent work achieved thanks to the contribution of all the components of cycling, from the athletes to the technicians, from the managers to the collaborators, from the federal staff to the partners who have chosen to support us in this journey."
The official conclusion of the Italian cycling season will take place on Friday 10 November, on the occasion of the Giro d'Onore, a ceremony that will take place in Milan. On this occasion, lifetime achievement awards will be given to Vincenzo Nibali, Marta Bastianelli and Liam Bertazzo, as well as a special recognition to Vittoria Bussi, who recorded the new Hour Record a few weeks ago.
