Italian cyclist
Gianni Moscon, a two-time national time
trial champion, is set for a fresh start as he joins
Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe at
the age of 30. In a recent interview with the Italian weekly show
Radio
Corsa, Moscon shared his excitement about the move and the positive changes
he has experienced so far.
"For me, it's a year of great changes for the better. I
did a training camp with the team in the last few days, and there is already a
serious, professional atmosphere, and people are working well. The team is very
involved right from the medical visits, we carry out very thorough checks. We
were at the Red Bull Performance Center in Salzburg, where all the athletes
sponsored by Red Bull go, and it is clear that they want to grow as they have
done in other sports than cycling."
Reflecting on his career, Moscon admitted that he misses the
peak form he displayed during the 2021
Paris-Roubaix. "I really miss the
Gianni Moscon of Paris-Roubaix 2021. Unfortunately, back then you had to deal
not only with yourself, but also with your opponents, and today the level has
undoubtedly risen. Today, to occupy the same position in the peloton as a few
years ago, you have to produce 10% more power. Even this year I already felt
good, I was at my almost optimal level, maybe I was still missing something
because of the two difficult years I had."
Despite acknowledging the increased competition in the
peloton, Moscon remains confident about his potential. "I think the level
I had at the Tour was very good. There are still things to improve, but you
also have to deal with your opponents. But with a good day, favorable living
conditions and a bit of luck, I think you can still get some
satisfaction."
However, he is also realistic about the challenges ahead,
noting the dominance of cycling's top stars. "We have to settle for fewer
glory days, especially because in the event of a direct confrontation with the
current big names, there is no comparison, and we have to invent something
different."
Moscon's move to Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe marks a new
chapter, one filled with optimism as he looks to recapture his best form while
adapting to the ever-evolving demands of professional cycling.
