"It would be stupid to want to do things differently now" - Remco Evenepoel not letting the success of 2022 effect his preparation for 2023

After coming of age in 2022 with standout victories at the Vuelta a Espana and in the UCI World Championship road race in Wollongong, Remco Evenepoel will go into the 2023 Giro Italia one of the favourites for pink and as a marked man.

This however, is not something the Belgian is overly concerned by. "There will be a lot more pressure and attention because of this rainbow jersey," the 22-year-old tells a press conference. "It would be stupid to want to do things differently now. There is always about a month between each race. This way we always have time to plan a training camp and mentally prepare myself for the next race."

Evenepoel will begin his season in Argentina on January the 29th at the week-long stage race, the Tour de San Juan. Key on the Soudal - Quick-Step rider's list of things to achieve in the coming year is success at the Giro d'Italia. Having failed to complete his only previous ride of the Italian Grand Tour in 2021, Evenepoel has unfinished business with the race.

"The Giro is coming soon, it's exactly four months away but no stress," the World Champion says. "I had a good winter. In the last few weeks, I even trained a little more, because I knew I was coming to Belgium for a few days. I did a lot of training at altitude."
