The
Vuelta a Espana has been revealed recently, and the 2023 route will, as usual, be a very mountainous one. Many felt excited with the decisions, and this past year's runner-up
Enric Mas was one of them.
“I hope to make the best of it. I would like to thank the organization for this course. I love it and am happy with the tough stages. It looks really great," the Spanish rider said during the race's presentation in Barcelona last night.
The presence of several summit finishes all throughout the race will make it a constant grind with gaps to be created from day one. It will include brutal mountain stages such as those ending at the Col du Tourmalet and the Alto de l'Angliru, but both feature very hard mountainous stages right after.
Combining those high mountain stages with more explosive days such as Xorret de Catí and the final mountain stage on the 20th day of racing will force the riders to be at their best all throughout the three weeks. The penultimate day of racing specially has gotten a lot of attention as it features over 200 kilometers and 10 categorized climbs.
“Despite the many tough stages, I think the organization has not gone over the line. It will be a spectacular race. One day you can lose three minutes, the next day you can take back three minutes. It will be worth watching," Mas concluded.
