"It wasn't good enough" - Daan Hoole unhappy with Dutch performances in World Championship time-trial

Although he finished as the best placed Dutchman in Friday's individual time-trial at the Glasgow World Championships, a 34th placed finish was well below the level Daan Hoole expected of himself.

"I was forty seconds behind Tarling at the Tour de Wallonie," Hoole said, almost in disbelief in his post-race interview with In de Leiderstrui after finishing closer to four minutes behind the Brit in Stirling. "Really bizarre. He really is a beast If you can do that at that age, then that is very impressive. Hats off to him," he clarifies, praising the 19-year-old who finished third at the line.

Hoole has had an unfortunate World Championships truth be told, crashing in both the men's road race and in the mixed relay team time-trial. Although he isn't looking to use that as an excuse. "I wasn't bothered by my falls, that's not the problem. It wasn't good enough. The wattages were not too bad, but it was not as it should be."

"I'm quite disappointed, to be honest," he concludes. "During the road race I didn't really feel like I was part of Mathieu's victory, to be honest he did that all by himself. It was impressive and it will always be special to have been there for Mathieu's victory. But, for myself: I hope to ride a few better World Championships."
