Jos van Emden rode his last World Time Trial Championship today. The Dutch veteran hangs his bike in the willows after this season. In terms of results, it was not a great day for Van Emden, who finished 36th. However, due to the presence of his good friend Tom Dumoulin in the support car, it was still a nice last World Championship for the time trialist.
"Cycling has brought me a lot. I'm not the greatest talent. If you can ride in the peloton for so long as a valued force, and can also ride good results yourself, I can be very satisfied with my career. I have seventeen victories, which is a good number. The stage in the Giro was a highlight, that was really a childhood dream come true," he said at NOS.
Van Emden won the final time trial at the 2017 Giro d'Italia on the same day Tom Dumoulin took the overall victory. "Tom was in the car today. It was a small reunion. He got into the car with Koos Moerenhout. It was kind of a farewell party. It was really nice that he rode behind me. That completes the circle," he concluded.
