The third stage of the
Tour of Britain saw
Kamiel Bonneu take his first victory.
Jordi Meeus finished in the fifth position.
The race started with bad weather and got worse in the end. The peloton had to chance to stake a claim in victory as the breakaway was able to hold them off throughout the race. Meeus was more focused on his health than on victory. “This is my first race after the broken collarbone I suffered in Poland. The first days I suffered a lot as I could feel the lack of training and racing,” said Meeus.
He was able to adjust and improve his performance compared to the last few stages. Although he was not able to sprint for the victory, he is happy with the overall result. “That’s also the reason we decided already this morning that we will gamble a bit if there is a break. Today I actually felt a lot better, and it is nice to see that I already got the potential to grab a win. I think we did everything right today, even though it is a pity we didn’t sprint for the win in the end. But it was a good day for us and probably a boost for my confidence,” said Meeus. He currently holds 71st position in GC, 12 minutes and 39 seconds overall leader Ben Perry.
