For the final time in his career, Jens Keukeleire took to the startline on Tuesday at the Tour de Guangxi and the EF Education-EasyPost man even launched one final attack.
"I joined the escape, which wasn't really the intention," the 34-year-old Belgian recapped post-stage in an interview with Sporza. "But I saw an opening and didn't hesitate. It was actually fun, with Jens Reynders and Dries De Bondt. We didn't make it easy for the peloton today."
Ultimately, a swansong stage win was not on the cards for Keukeleire as he and his breakaway companions were caught by the peloton with Jumbo-Visma's Olav Kooij sprinting to victory.
"I'm tired. This morning I woke up tired. That's the age, right?" Keukeleire concludes. "It has been 14 wonderful years. It does something to me. I am happy that I can share this with Sporza's best journalist!"
