It had recently been
reported that
Thymen Arensman could be on his way out from
INEOS Grenadiers but that couldn't be further from the truth. Whilst some of his teammates don't have the same guarantees, the Dutchman has signed a new contract all the way into 2027.
“I am really happy to extend with INEOS and it was a very easy decision to make for me. I have been a Grenadier for two years, and am really happy and settled here," the Dutchman said in a press release. "I have great people around me who understand my body and help me to get the best out of myself. I know that mentally and physically, I perform better with stability, so it’s great to know that this will be my home for the next three years.”
This is a move that is logical for INEOS, a team that has been losing many of it's Grand Tour riders over the past years and has been overrun by UAE Team Emirates and Team Visma | Lease a Bike when it comes to potential to winning one. The team relies currently on Carlos Rodríguez and the veteran Geraint Thomas who continues to perform; but close behind is 24-year old Arensman who has consistently delivered since joining the team in 2023.
“Thymen is a super talented young rider who has played a key role in two Grand Tours for the team already," team performance director Scott Drawer added. "He has developed and learnt a lot over the last two seasons and I know he will continue to play a big part in the future success of the team."
Arensman joined after very promising years at DSM where he established himself as a great climber and stage-racer. In both 2023 and 2024 he finished the Giro d'Italia in sixth position whilst having a support role for Geraint Thomas who also finished on the podium on two occasions.
“He is keen to learn, committed, ambitious and wants to push himself to be a leader and podium at a Grand Tour himself one day. We are all excited to continue to support Thymen, helping him to reach his full potential and see what he is capable of," Drawer concluded.
