Sir
Bradley Wiggins came to watch the
Tour of Britain stage 5 on Saturday to cheer on his son Ben. The relatively easy stage turned out harder than necessary for the 19-year-old who was among the last riders to cross the line, 8 minutes behind stage winner, after having crashed earlier on the day.
"I was here as a supporter, but Ben crashed," Bradley Wiggins told Belgian reporters in Britain.
Ominous reports have emerged about Wiggins, winner of the Tour de France in 2012, in the past year. Wiggins is said to be struggling with a mountain of debt and to have hit rock bottom.
However since then, things seem to have taken a turn to better and the 44-year-old looks to be in a much better (mental) shape than months ago. "I'm fine," he said after the finish of the 5th stage. "Mentally I'm healthy. I lost my way a bit, but that happens to every man sometimes, right?"
"I'm doing well and on my way back. What's the truth about the stories of bankruptcy? It's a long story. I can't say everything, but I have been screwed by many people. But I will get everything back. At the moment I'm glad to be alive. I've had some dark days, but I'm doing well."
