Richard Carapaz' time with INEOS Grenadiers is coming to a close, as the Ecuadorian climber is set to leave the team for the 2023 season after three successful seasons.
“At the end of the day, everyone is free to do what they want. Richard is a brilliant rider and he has really done well with us. Richard has been brilliant and he would have been great for us if he had stayed, but such is life. It's not official yet, but I'm aware of it," Ellingworth said of the Ecuadorian's move to EF Education-EasyPost to VeloNews.
Carapaz won the Olympic Games and the Tour de Suisse in his stay with the British team, alongside several stage wins and top results which included podiums in all three Grand Tours. Carapaz is still set to lead INEOS at the upcoming Vuelta a España where he will have one more opportunity to fight for the win before making the move to the American team.
INEOS are having a badge of talents which bring a varied set of terrains where the team can thrive, and are mostly looking to keep and progress them for the years to come. “We have a good group and we are looking for different options, different development paths. It is a new generation and we must give them opportunities to continue progressing," he concluded.
