Richard Carapaz was involved in a crash on the Côte de Vivero at the Tour de France today. He has gotten back on his bike to continue and will be examined by team medical staff after the stage.
Just ahead of the start of 2023 Tour de France, EF Education-EasyPost leaders spoke about their ambitions for the race at press conference. However initial plans took a huge blow as designated leader Richard Carapaz crashed hard in the opening stage and the team no longer has a rider within the GC.
"If we have the chance and the opportunity, we'll go for our own chance," said Esteban Chaves before the race.
EF Education-EasyPost will also feature Neilson Powless, Rigoberto Urán, Magnus Cort and Alberto Bettiol, among others. "It is no secret that we have a very good team here. There is a good atmosphere. We have a chance in the tougher stages. If you look at the roadbook, there are fourteen stages with over 3,000 meters of climbing, which really suits us as a team. That is why we chose these riders for this Tour," Chaves adds.
Powless, who showed the team colors in breakaway on several occasions last year summarizes the goals. "Let's say the same as many other teams. Stage wins and a rider on the podium. If we can achieve one or both, it would be a great Tour."
