There is seemingly still much work to be done for Remco Evenepoel in his quest to get back to top form in 2025. On the Queen Stage of the Tour de Romandie this Saturday afternoon, the Belgian played a domestique role for Soudal - Quick-Step teammate William Junior Lecerf, helping the Best Young Rider in the race limit his losses on the final climb.
"It was okay, but of course I still have a lot of work to do," admits Evenepoel honestly in his post-race interview afterwards with Eurosport. "It was okay. We couldn't hold the pace from I think, halfway up the climb there. So we tried to do our own pace."
In the end, Evenepoel helped Lecerf stay relatively in touch, concluding the day still 5th in the general classification. "I asked Junior what pace he wanted. The I tried to give the maximum to keep it as stable as possible, and yeah, in the end we lose some time but it wasn't crazy. I mean, we lost too much time to win the GC tomorrow probably, but Junior is still quite high up there and for myself, I just have to give the maximum tomorrow to gain some time back."
Utter stupidity. HE the the premier rider for them. Why is he pacing someone else who has not even proven themselves. That too in the light of the TT to come. 5 mil for domestique . One wont see these antics from Pogi or Jonas unless they are completely out.
