The Trofeo Senza Fine (trophy without an end) is the
Giro d'Italia's very own artwork and today a new name has joined the club. The Briton has joined many of the world's best historically and modernly speaking, finally winning the race seven years after he was on the brink of achieving it for the first time.
"I still can't believe it. It's hard to accept. It's definitely a very important moment in my career," Yates has said in a post-race interview before climbing onto the podium together with Isaac del Toro and Richard Carapaz. "I'm very happy. Visma still managed to, besides the celebrations at the start of the day, ride to a stage win with Olav Kooij, closing the race with a 'golden key' after a first week that was very far from what they had expected.
"Yesterday on the plane to Rome, we were talking, but we decided to focus on today. Now I feel differently. There's nothing greater than this feeling. It's an important moment in my career. We'll see what happens from here". In the coming days it's certain that the
Team Visma | Lease a Bike will share more about his thoughts and how he rode to victory in the Corsa Rosa - his second Grand Tour in the palmarès - but in the meantime the Dutch team has a very big reason to celebrate.
