After a heavy crash at the Sluitingsprijs cyclocross race in Oostmalle that left him with a broken nose, Toon Aerts is now set to return to training next Saturday following a successful surgery, as he said in an interview with Sporza that “I should actually be able to sit on the bike already, because I have no pain”.
The Deschacht-Hens-Maes rider recently returned from a two-year doping suspension with two fourth place finishes at the Waaslandcross in Sint-Niklaas and the X²O Badkamers Trofee in Brussels before his unfortunate crash in Oostmalle.
On his return to competition, Aerts said “I’ll wait a little longer, because I still have to pay attention due to the clogged sinuses and headaches”.
He was supposed to race at the GP Vermarc on the road this weekend, but he will now turn his attention to gravel racing, with the BK Gravel race set to be his main objective at the beginning of May.
