Toon Aerts is set to start his cyclocross season this Saturday in Sint-Niklaas after a two-year absence due to a suspension. "Counting the days is an understatement, I've been doing it for 2 years," Aerts expressed in an interview with Sporza Daily on the eve of his return.
During his suspension, Aerts has been intensely dedicated to preparing for his return to the field, working hard on his training and maintaining close collaboration with his new trainer, Erwin Borgonjon, since last October.
The collaboration with Borgonjon began with a two-week rest period for Aerts, followed by an irregular training phase. However, his coach notes that this initial rest was instrumental in starting a new training cycle.
Despite the anticipation and confidence in his fitness, Aerts acknowledges the challenge of starting from the back of the pack in the early races. Still, both he and his coach are confident that his solid preparation will translate into solid results in upcoming competitions.
