It was a roller-coaster week for Demi Vollering, who saw penalizations and teammate Lotte Kopecky in the race lead throughou almost the entire Tour de France Femmes, however on the final two stages where it mattered the most the Dutch rider made the difference and has taken the overall win.
“I still can't believe it. I worked very hard. However, it's not just hard work," Vollering said in the flash interview. "You also have to believe in it. In addition, you also have to keep yourself calm throughout the year. You have to find a balance in your life in order to do this. I just felt really good all year.”
Team SD Worx have completely dominated the final time-trial, in style that they have done throughout other races. Marlen Reusser won the stage whilst Vollering finished second and sealed the overall classification, with Lotte Kopecky rising to second after she rode to third on the day.
The time-trial was however only the nail in the coffin for all other riders who still dreamed of a GC win, the Dutchwoman made the difference in the queen stage to the Col du Tourmalet and her climbing abilities have seen her take a significant victory in the GC.
