With Arensman, who thanks to his impressive time trial performances rised to sixth overall despite disappointing opening weekend, the Italian climber now has a formidable competitor for fifth place as well as the youth classification. The two are currently only nineteen seconds apart from each other.
"I hope this was my worst day this Giro and that I can defend my position in the final week. Today was the toughest day of this Giro. It really was a monster stage. It was my hardest day on the bike ever," he said.
Finally, Tiberi also shed some light on
Tadej Pogacar's performance. The Slovenian was unleashed by his team on Fpscagno and arrived to Mottolino with nearly three minutes of advantage over his closest opponents. Tiberi, who couldn't follow the other favourites, lost four minutes to Pogacar. "Today he showed everyone how strong he is."
Pogacar now sees the rest of the cycling world from a
six-minute tall throne. Naturally, people start to wonder whether the race is finally over - a thought Tiberi can't really disapprove. "His lead is now six minutes. With one week to go, I think it will be very difficult," concluded the 22-year-old rider.
