After two testing days at the
2025
Tour de Suisse, Groupama – FDJ’s
Romain Grégoire holds the yellow jersey.
The Frenchman won Stage 1 in commanding fashion and successfully defended his
lead on Stage 2, thanks in part to a valuable bonus second gained at an
intermediate sprint.
The 22-year-old admitted
afterwards that the day had taken a toll. “On TV, it looked easier than it did
on the bike. I'm glad to be done tonight,” he said. “Some teams accelerated to
eliminate the sprinters on the climbs, it really wore out the legs.”
Despite his GC ambitions,
Grégoire still tried to contest the final sprint. “I would have liked to have
been at the front, but I wasn’t able to move up the way I would’ve liked in the
last two kilometres,” he explained. “We had a different scenario with Lewis
Askey, and fortunately, he responded to give us a great podium. We achieved our
two objectives for the day.”
Grégoire acknowledged that he’s
still working to regain race sharpness. “On a steamroller day in the WorldTour,
I felt that it had been a while since I had raced. I need to get back into the
rhythm, but I still have good feelings.”
