Intermarché-Circus-Wanty rider Laurenz Rex made an appearance in the breakaway on stage 14 of the Giro d'Italia. Staying positive despite the miserable weather conditions, Rex is determined to try again for a stage win.
"I'm here first and foremost to get stronger," says the Belgian who finished in the top 10 at Paris-Roubaix earlier this year in a post-stage interview following the conclusion to the day's racing. "If I get another chance this Giro, I'm definitely going to try and otherwise I'll definitely succeed next year!"
Although was once again wet, cold and just downright horrible, Rex maintained a smile on his face throughout, even mimicking a swimmer at one point during the race. "The descent from the Simplon Pass? It was freezing cold," he admits. "I had four coats on at one point. Other than that descent it was all fun."
The stage was eventually won by BORA - hansgrohe rider Nico Denz with Rex having to settle for a fourth-placed finish.
