For the second year running, Tadej Pogacar was forced to settle for the runners-up spot on the podium at Giro dell'Emilia. Last year it was behind Enric Mas, this year, his Slovenian compatriot Primoz Roglic took the victory.
“But it gets better every year. I'm getting a little closer to victory,” Pogacar says with a wry smile in his post-race interview with Cycling Pro Net. "It was a good day. We did very well as a team. At the end it was sprinting, but Primoz was much, much too fast. But the legs are good for the next two races."
“It was a wrong decision to go so early. I felt good, but that was my mistake of the day," Pogacar reflects honestly. "But at least I was able to attack this year. The previous two times it was a DNF or I couldn't follow. So overall it was a good day.”
Those aforementioned upcoming two races, Tre Valli Varesine (Tuesday, October 3) and Il Lombardia (Saturday, October 7), saw Pogacar bounce back from disappointment at the Giro dell'Emilia to end his season with two wins last season. Could history be about to repeat itself?
