On a day when all the headlines have been about Primoz Roglic's uncertain future, the Slovenian has laid down a marker of talents by taking a brilliant third Giro dell'Emilia victory.

Heading onto the final climb, an elite group had been formed at the head of the race. Alongside Roglic were the likes of Tadej Pogacar, Simon Yates, Enric Mas, Richard Carapaz, Aleksandr Vlasov and Michael Woods.
